Community Safety Initiatives
October is Community Safety Month
IFAP is delighted to be a supporting partner of this year's Community Safety Month and encourages all members of the community to participate.
The Injury Control Council of WA (ICCWA) is coordinating Community Safety Month (CSM) in an effort to engage people and encourage participation to improve safety in the community. Throughout October, community groups and safety promotion stakeholders are encouraged to host and participate in a wide range of Community Safety Month Events.
To launch Community Safety Month and to celebrate International Safe Communities Day, ICCWA will host the Breakfast of Champions on Friday 1 October 2010 at Burswood on the Swan. A Champion is an individual or community group who has shown initiative and taken significant action within a community to prevent injury and/or promote safety and safe behaviour choices. IFAP has scheduled the following events to coincide with Community Safety Month:
- 2010 SKILLED Gala Dinner (Thursday 7 October)

- IFAP October Breakfast Event (Date TBA)
- Western Australian Free Fall Life Boat Training Facility Launch (Friday 15 October)

2011 IFAP Safety Calendar Competition
The IFAP Safety Calendar was introduced in 2003 as a community safety initiative to increase awareness of safety issues by engaging children at primary school level in important safety discussions.
Students are encouraged to discuss safety issues with family members or teachers to gain an understanding of some hazards involved in the workplace, at home and in their community and the measures family take to reduce the risk. Following these discussions students are invited to submit an A3 poster illustrating their views with a clear safety message.
The 2011 IFAP Safety Calendar will be launched during Community Safety Month.
For more information about the calendar or how your school can become involved contact Jodie Cartwright on (08) 9335 3303.
