New Federal Code of Practice

The Occupational Health and Safety Code of Practice 2008 (the OHS Code 2008) came into effect on 12 June 2008. This new code replaces the previous 27 codes of practice.

The OHS Code 2008 advises duty holders on how to fulfill their obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1991 (the OHS Act) and the Occupational Health and Safety (Safety Standards) Regulations 1994. Further, the code provides a clear process of risk management to assist duty holders to identify, assess and implement controls for hazards in workplaces.

The new Code revokes a large number of older Commonwealth Codes and duty holders are encouraged to read the code and implement the parts that apply to their workplace.

New Injury Management Courses Launched

Following the success of IFAP’s current suite of Injury Management courses and in response to demand, two new courses are now available.

Its first Advanced Injury Management course has been scheduled for 26-27 August. This two-day course will offer students the opportunity to revisit and reinforce their knowledge of Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management law previously dealt with at IMCC level and learn more about detailed aspects of the law not previously covered.

A second course for Approved Vocational Rehabilitation Providers (AVRPs) will commence in September. This one-day course is designed to introduce the law of Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management to AVRPs.
