IFAP Board

The Board is responsible for the overall corporate governance of IFAP, including its strategic direction and monitoring the organisation’s performance against strategic and budget targets.

The Board meets regularly in order to properly discharge these responsibilities and monitor executive management.


Richard Mehan President

Richard has a wealth of experience operating within the bulk resources sector, with over 30 years operating predominately within senior roles in the iron ore industry. He spent 15 years with Rio Tinto Iron Ore in a range of commercial roles including sales and marketing, business analysis and development and bulk shipping. Richard has held previous roles as Managing Director and CEO of Jupiter Mines Limited and CEO & Managing Director of Grange Resources Limited.


Maria Saraceni Vice President - Barrister, Francis Burt Chambers

Maria Saraceni has extensive experience working within the area of regulatory law, particularly that of OSH and employment relation sectors. Currently Barrister at Francis Burt Chambers with a BA, Dip Ed (Hons), B. Ed, B. Juris and LLB, Maria sits as a non-executive director across a variety of boards and is passionate about giving back to the community.  


Craig Renner - Head of Strategy, Planning and Technology, BHP Billiton

Current Head of Strategy, Planning and Technology at BHP Billiton, Craig has held a variety of positions within BHP, including Head of Growth and planning, and Vice President of Strategy Energy Coal. In addition to his impressive career with BHP, Craig has worked with companies such as Bluescope Australia and New Zealand, the Mars Corporation and Skilled Group. Craig holds his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Canterbury. 


Dr Brian Galton-Fenzi - Occupational and Environmental Physician Safety and Risk Management, The Healthy Worker

Dr. Galton-Fenzi is an Occupational and Environmental Physician Safety and Risk Management at The Healthy Worker Pty Ltd. He has gained his Fellowships with the Australasian Faculties of Occupational & Environmental Medicine and with the Faculty of Public Health Medicine, and holds a particular interest in the epidemiology of the mining workforce. Brian has sat on the IFAP board since 2007. 


Dan Smetana - Chairman, Joyce Corporation Ltd

Chairman of Joyce Corporation Ltd since 1984, Dan sits across a number of boards including Edge Employment Solutions Inc, the Federation of WA Police and Community Youth Centres (Inc), and Chairman St John of God Comprehensive Cancer Centre Fundraising Committee. His Awards include Ian Chisholm Award for Distinguished National Service to Occupational Health and Safety, 2003 Centenary Medal for Service to Commerce and the Community and 1988 – WA Business Executive of the Year.


Graham Hogg - Partner, KPMG

A partner of KPMG since 2005 and Director of IFAP since 2012, Graham has specialised in the mining, oil and gas sector during his audit career. Over the course of his secondments with KPMG, Graham has lived in Ghana, the United States, Russia, Chile and Australia in addition to studying at the Wellington College of Education.
