Asbestos is a hazardous material and its removal needs to be carried out by trained and experienced operators who are licensed. Those completing this course will be able to properly supervise, manage and carry out asbestos work involving non-friable (bonded) asbestos containing material.

Occupational Safety and Health regulations require operators to have a Restricted Asbestos Licence if removing more than 10 square metres of bonded asbestos in a workplace.

This course is designed for those supervisors or frontline leaders who are required to meet the Australian oil and gas industry standard of competence necessary for attaining a SSCP card.

The Safe Supervisor Competence Program (SSCP) is established as an entry-level program, providing a benchmark for common safety leadership skills across the Australian oil and gas industry. Companies can also use it to help select personnel best suited to move into more extensive in-house supervisory training.

SSCP is available to any prospective and existing supervisors or frontline leaders in the oil and gas industry – it is not limited to the offshore construction and installation sector.

To obtain an SSCP card, participants must now demonstrate safety leadership behaviours in a work- simulated training environment with an approved SSCP training organisation.

A requirement of the WA Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 is the appointment of persons with the competence to ensure that workplaces are adequately ventilated to minimise risks arising from exposure to hazardous substances and airborne contaminants. This course builds upon the competencies acquired in the three-day IFAP Surface Ventilation Technician Course.

Participants will be required to provide evidence that they have understood the training and have applied it in their workplace. This requirement means that it’s not possible to complete all of the assessment requirements during the face-to-face training.
