Overview
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to achieve the Excavator competencies specified in the national guidelines for Occupational Health and Safety Competency Standards for the Operation of Loadshifting Equipment and Other Types of Specified Equipment [NOHSC:7019(1992)].
Course Outcomes
On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Conduct routine safety checks on excavator controls and equipment
- Plan the work
- Have sound knowledge of engineering principles and stability
- Use attachments and accessories
- Shift the load
- Handle a truck
- Excavate
- Shutdown equipment in a safe manner
- Secure the worksite

Course participants must be 18 years of age, be able to read and use the English language at a level that is appropriate to the safe use and operation of the particular equipment as specified in the competency standards. No prior excavating experience is needed.
On successful completion of this course, participants will be issued with a certificate of attendance.
