This Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) course is intended to train individuals who undertake frequent travel to offshore facilities via a helicopter. To prepare for emergency scenarios, participants will develop hands-on experience training in submerged helicopter simulators and learn essential sea survival techniques, including life jacket and life raft training.

As Perth’s leading provider of offshore safety and emergency training, IFAP offers the HUET course under an OPITO approved module. Our Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) course is conducted in Perth, allowing participants to complete the necessary training required within a six-hour time frame. After the course is concluded, participants will be given an OPITO Certificate of Attendance in accordance with the HUET course qualification.

On completion of the OPITO approved HUET course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what hazards may arise during evacuation from the helicopter
  • Identify the best exit points
  • Perform inhalation and surfacing techniques to sustain one’s breath
  • Undertake key survival measures when at sea or submersed in water
  • Facilitate a safe and successful underwater escape


On successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with a numbered photo ID card, registration onto the OPITO database and an OPITO Certificate of Attendance for the course HUET.

A valid medical that meets IFAP’s guidelines must be presented prior to undertaking the practical components of the course, to prove participants are medically and physically capable to do the training required.
