The base of a successful Occupational Safety and Health program is that hazards in the workplace can be identified and controlled in accordance with the risks they pose. This process is an essential part of the safety systems required in WA Occupational Safety and Health regulations.

This program focuses on the role of all employees and emphasises the need for their involvement in the process of managing workplace hazards. It has particular relevance to those who have had little or no previous Occupational Safety and Health training.

Expected Outcomes

On completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the various types of hazards that exist in the workplace
  • Apply the techniques of hazard identification to a workplace inspection
  • Assess the level of risk posed by identified hazards using a risk assessment matrix
  • Identify critical tasks that require specific risk control strategies
  • Suggest effective hazard control techniques by application of the hierarchy of control
  • Conduct a Task Impact Analysis and develop Safe Work Procedures
