This course is designed for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board a ship which is required to comply with the provisions of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code on the business of that ship as part of the ship’s complement without designated security duties.

This course aims to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to carry out a ship security plan, assessments and actions, security responsibilities, training and equipment, preparedness drills and exercises. The training will include security-related familiarisation in: Reporting a security incident, including a piracy or armed robbery threat or attack; The procedures to follow when a security threat is identified; Security-related emergency and contingency procedures.

On completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness
  • Have the ability to recognise security threats
  • Respond to security threats appropriately


On successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with an AMSA approved course completion statement.

The SAT course is recognised by AMSA as meeting the requirements of Table A-VI/6-1 of STCW 78, as amended.
