What is Unique Student Identifier (USI)?

From 1 January 2015 all participants undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a registered training organisation must have a valid USI. Participants must provide IFAP with their USI when they enrol for Nationally Recognised Training (NRT). The USI provided will be verified by IFAP with the registrar. Failure to provide a valid USI will result in certification not being issued.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment

Upon confirmation of your booking, you would have received your personal participant login details for the LLN (Language, Literacy & Numeracy) Assessment to complete prior to the commencement of your course.

This assessment is NOT a test and there is no pass or fail.

This assessment is intended to identify any areas in which you may require extra support. Your Trainer/Assessor will use the results of this assessment to determine where their training efforts are best directed for the learner.

Should you have any learning difficulties such as Dyslexia please inform IFAP in advance. In turn this will help determine the learner’s need for LLN support.

This assessment is comprised of 3 parts: Literacy, Numeracy and Language. Most questions are multiple choice and there is one paragraph answer.

Standard Terms and Conditions

The following standard terms and conditions apply to any training course or service that is offered by IFAP.

  • All bookings must be confirmed with payment in full and cleared, at least 10 working days prior to the commencement of the course.
  • Member account customers must confirm with a ‘hard copy’ of the purchase order at least 10 working days prior to the commencement of the course. Terms of payment, 14 days from date of invoice.
  • Service Level Agreement (SLA) customers must confirm as per the SLA. Terms of payment, 14 days from date of invoice.
  • Payments can be made by credit card, direct credit transfer, cheque/money order, cash or EFTPOS, as per method of payment.
  • All cancellations or variations to course bookings must be received in writing.
  • A substitution can be made prior to course commencement at no additional charge.
  • No refunds will be given for the cancellation of a booking received less than 3 full working days of the course commencement.
  • A change to another course date may be made at no additional charge, if more than 3 full working days notice is given.  Any changes made in less than 3 full working days will incur an administration fee of 30% of the course fee.
  • Should a participant fail to attend or complete the full course for which they have been enrolled, no refund will be given.
  • IFAP reserves the right to cancel courses without notice. IFAP will refund in full any payments received for any course that it cancels. IFAP will not be liable for any claims arising from course cancellation.
  • A Booking Acknowledgement will be will be sent on receipt of your enrolment application.  However confirmation is subject to the above Terms and Conditions and a course confirmation letter will only be sent once they are met. IFAP reserves the right to withdraw any participant from a course if payment has not been received in accordance with the above conditions.
  • IFAP reserves the right to alter any price, service, condition or the availability of any service or item without further notice.
  • IFAP does not require a prospective participant to prepay fees in excess of a total of $1500 for Nationally Recognised Training

Glossary of Terms

The IFAP Glossary of Terms was not developed to be the quintessential reference for the Western Australian safety professional. Rather, it has been developed as a mechanism for ensuring consistency of interpretation of commonly used terms by IFAP’s team of safety and health, emergency management technical and training course accreditation specialists.

As such, IFAP members and other stakeholders in the occupational safety and health, emergency management and related professions are welcome to utilise this document, or parts thereof and contribute to its continual improvement.

Note that definitions are extracted from 22 cited references. Where possible, references have been cited from legal publications in the first instance, followed by Australian Standards, learning guides and published texts. In the rare instance where a term does not have a published reference, an IFAP derived definition has been utilised.
Over the past few years debate has continued over the seeming inter-relationship between the terms accident and incident. IFAP has, since inception, supported use of the word accident (after all it does appear in the registered business name the Industrial Foundation for Accident Prevention), however, in this edition of the Glossary of Terms, we have included a discussion as to why we support the term accident as an Appendix to this document.

Novel Coronavirus

An outbreak of novel coronavirus COVID-19 was first reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in late December 2019.

If you have recent travel history to mainland China and develop symptoms (listed below), or have been in contact with a person diagnosed with novel coronavirus with in the last 14 days, you should contact your primary care provider. Your primary care provider will liaise with Public Health units and determine whether or not you need to be excluded from the vocational education facility (IFAP).

Symptoms include (but are not limited to) fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue and shortness of breath.
