Matt Van Schaik

    Matt has been working in OSH and injury management for over 20 years. He has achieved Diploma in OSH and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and others as noted below.

    Matt was appointed Occupational Health and Safety Officer with Coromal Caravans Pty Ltd where he managed all aspects of OSH and Injury Management / Workers Compensation During this time Matt was responsible for all aspects of safety management including  risk assessment and control, plant and machinery, maintenance scheduling, inspections and accident investigation. In 2005 Matt was appointed to the steering committee to strategically align the organisation’s safety system and plan across all divisions.

    Since commencing work with IFAP in 2007 Matt has  been involved with facilitation of inductions at BP refinery, Kwinana, and assisting with FRCP’s review at Kwinana Nickel He was also facilitating shut down and management at BHPBilliton Expansion project Groote Eylandt as a safety advisor for approx 10 months working 10 hr shifts 7 days a week. The job entailed legislative and organisational compliance for GEMCO (BHPBilliton) and contractors. This project included providing advice and expertise for risk management and safe working procedures on a daily basis reporting to the safety superintendent of expansion on site. Matt has also been appointed as an advisor, monitoring and environmental contam testing for Griffin coal.

    Matt facilitates training at IFAP and throughout the state in the following courses: Certificate IV in OSH, OSH Refresher, Intro to OSH, OSH for Supervisors, OSH for Representatives, Manual Handling, and Accident Investigation. Matt has also added to his capabilities by conducting a number of compliance inspections in both the OSH and Mining industries for various clients.  With Lead Auditing qualifications, Matt has conducted compliance audits against AS/NZS 4801 as well as Safeway desktop audits.
